The best Chick-fil-A high protein low calorie order is the 12 count Grilled Nuggets: 200 Calories and 38 g of protein on Chick-fil-A’s own nutrition page. Add a medium Fruit Cup and Zesty Buffalo Sauce and the whole meal is 295 Calories with 39 g of protein.
Below are seven orders under 500 Calories, the menu numbers behind them, and the sides, sauces and drinks that quietly add hundreds.
Where do these Chick-fil-A numbers come from?
Every figure here is from the Chick-fil-A US Nutrition and Allergens page (chick-fil-a.com), checked on 14 October 2026. Where we list a meal, we added up Chick-fil-A’s figures for each item in it.
Chick-fil-A notes that its numbers come from standard recipes, and that real portions and customisations vary. Treat these totals as close estimates. Menus change, so check the current page before you log a new item.

The grilled nuggets are in a league of their own. The 12 count has almost the same protein as the fried 12 count (38 g against 40 g) for 180 fewer Calories. Nothing else on the menu comes close on protein per Calorie.
The sandwiches are closer than you might expect. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is only 30 Calories lighter than the classic fried Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, and it has about the same protein (28 g against 29 g).
What are the best high protein low calorie meals at Chick-fil-A?
All totals are our sums of Chick-fil-A’s US figures. Drinks are unsweetened iced tea (0 Calories) unless stated.
| Order | Calories | Protein (g) | Carbs (g) | Fat (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. 12 ct Grilled Nuggets, medium Fruit Cup, Zesty Buffalo Sauce | 295 | 39 | 19 | 7 |
| 2. 8 ct Grilled Nuggets, Kale Crunch Side | 300 | 29 | 14 | 15 |
| 3. 12 ct Grilled Nuggets, Kale Crunch Side | 370 | 42 | 15 | 16.5 |
| 4. Market Salad with Light Italian Dressing instead of Zesty Apple Cider Vinaigrette | 345 | 28 | 29 | 13 |
| 5. Grilled Chicken Sandwich, medium Fruit Cup | 460 | 29 | 61 | 11 |
| 6. Egg White Grill, medium Fruit Cup (breakfast) | 370 | 28 | 45 | 8 |
| 7. Hash Brown Scramble Bowl with Grilled Filet, no hash browns (breakfast) | 270 | 29 | 2 | 16 |
Order 1 is the pick if you want the most protein for the least food energy. Order 3 is the most filling, because the Kale Crunch Side adds volume and almonds. Order 4 keeps the full Market Salad with its granola, blue cheese and almonds and only changes the dressing.
Order 5 is for days you want a proper sandwich. Order 7 is a low carb breakfast; Order 6 is the classic one.
Which Chick-fil-A sauces have the fewest calories?
Sauce is where a light meal goes heavy. Per packet, US nutrition page, checked 14 October 2026:
| Sauce | Calories | Sodium (mg) |
|---|---|---|
| Zesty Buffalo Sauce | 25 | 570 |
| Barbeque Sauce | 45 | 200 |
| Sweet and Spicy Sriracha Sauce | 45 | 380 |
| Honey Mustard Sauce | 50 | 160 |
| Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce | 60 | 75 |
| Garden Herb Ranch Sauce | 100 | 170 |
| Polynesian Sauce | 110 | 210 |
| Chick-fil-A Sauce | 140 | 170 |
One packet of Chick-fil-A Sauce has more Calories than an 8 count of Grilled Nuggets (140 against 130). Two packets add 280. If you love it, use one and count it.
How much do the dressings change a Chick-fil-A salad?
A lot. Chick-fil-A’s Market Salad page says its 550 Calories include the toppings and the Zesty Apple Cider Vinaigrette, which is 230 Calories by itself. The page lists the dressings at:
- Light Italian Dressing: 25 Calories
- Light Balsamic Vinaigrette: 80 Calories
- Fat-Free Honey Mustard Dressing: 90 Calories
- Zesty Apple Cider Vinaigrette: 230 Calories
- Garden Herb Ranch Dressing: 280 Calories
- Creamy Salsa Dressing: 290 Calories
- Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing: 310 Calories
The toppings matter too. On the same page, the Harvest Nut Granola is 70 Calories, the Roasted Almonds 60 and the blue cheese 30. Skip the granola and almonds as well as switching to Light Italian, and the Market Salad drops to about 215 Calories, though you lose some crunch and a little protein.
The Cool Wrap is listed at 660 Calories and 43 g of protein, and its ingredient list includes Avocado Lime Ranch dressing. If you order it, ask for a lighter dressing or use half the packet.
Which sides and drinks add the most calories?
The meal you choose is rarely the problem. The extras are:
- Medium Waffle Potato Fries: 420 Calories. A small is 320, a large 600.
- Medium Mac and Cheese: 450 Calories (with 20 g of protein, to be fair).
- Side Salad: 470 Calories as listed, because it comes with a creamy dressing.
- Medium Chick-fil-A Lemonade: 260 Calories. The medium Diet Lemonade is 60, and unsweetened iced tea is 0.
A common order of a Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, medium Waffle Potato Fries, one Chick-fil-A Sauce and a medium Lemonade comes to 1,240 Calories with 34 g of protein. Order 1 above has 39 g of protein for 295. Same restaurant, more protein, about a quarter of the Calories.
Is Chick-fil-A high in sodium?
Some items are. The 12 count Grilled Nuggets have 660 mg of sodium, the Egg White Grill 990 mg and the Market Salad 1,010 mg. The FDA’s Daily Value for sodium is under 2,300 mg for the whole day, so one meal can use a large share.
The fried nuggets are much saltier than the grilled ones: 1,820 mg for a 12 count, against 660 mg. Zesty Buffalo Sauce is the lowest calorie sauce but adds 570 mg, so if you are watching salt, Honey Roasted BBQ (75 mg) or Honey Mustard (160 mg) are better picks. Anyone told to limit sodium for blood pressure or kidney reasons should follow their own doctor’s limit.
Are Chick-fil-A calories different in Canada?
Some are. On chick-fil-a.ca, checked 14 October 2026, the Grilled Nuggets match the US figures exactly (8 count 130 Calories and 25 g of protein, 12 count 200 Calories and 38 g). The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is 380 Calories in Canada against 390 in the US, and some salads differ by up to 90 Calories. The Canadian menu is also not identical to the US one, so check the Canadian page for anything you order often.
If you track in kg, the 12 count Grilled Nuggets serving is listed at 142 g (about 5 oz).
How do I fit Chick-fil-A into my calorie target?
Decide your order before you reach the drive-thru. If your daily target is around 1,800 Calories, a 295 Calorie nugget meal leaves plenty of room, while a 1,240 Calorie combo uses more than two thirds of the day. Find your own number with the calorie deficit calculator and your protein goal with the protein calculator. Our guide on how much protein per day explains how the targets are set.
If you take a GLP-1 medicine and can only manage small meals, the 8 count Grilled Nuggets are useful because almost all of the 130 Calories is protein. Our post on protein on GLP-1 covers this in more detail. Eating somewhere else tonight? We did the same breakdown for the Chipotle low calorie high protein bowl.
When you log, enter each item and each sauce separately rather than “Chick-fil-A meal”, because one generic entry can be off by hundreds of Calories. If you would rather snap a photo, Calo AI’s free photo calorie calculator gives an estimate, and adding a note like “12 grilled nuggets, buffalo sauce, fruit cup” makes it more accurate. Portions are the hardest part for any photo tool, so correct the result by voice or text if it looks off. The Calo AI web app and Android app are free to use.
Safety note: if you have diabetes, look at the carbohydrate figures as well as Calories, especially for buns, fruit cups and sweet drinks. If you are pregnant, under 18, or have kidney disease, speak to a doctor or registered dietitian before raising your protein intake.
