WeightWatchers Alternative App: Free and Cheaper Options

Short answer: WeightWatchers (formerly branded WW) is a paid program built on its Points system, with coaching, a GLP-1 program and Med+ clinical plans. Its US website showed plans from $25 for the first month, then $74 or $84 a month. Calo AI is a free calorie tracker alternative on Android and the web, paid for by ads, without Points or human coaches.

The best free WeightWatchers alternative app depends on whether you want Points or plain calories. If calories and protein are fine, Calo AI is free on Android and in the browser, with photo, voice and text logging and an AI coach, paid for by ads. WeightWatchers itself is a paid membership: its US plans page showed $25 for the first month, then $74 a month on a 12 month plan or $84 on a 6 month plan (checked 1 October 2026).

Disclosure: this page is written by the Calo AI Team, and Calo AI is our app. WeightWatchers facts come from its own website and app store listings, checked on 1 October 2026.

Is it WeightWatchers or WW now?

The program and app are called WeightWatchers. The app’s developer on the App Store is WW International, Inc., and its copyright line reads “WW International, Inc. (WeightWatchers)”, so you will still see both names. Its US site lists Core, Core+, Core+ Menopause, Med+, the GLP-1 Success Program and Support for Diabetes.

What does WeightWatchers cost?

On its US plans page (checked 1 October 2026), WeightWatchers showed:

  • 12 month plan: $25 for the first month, then $74 a month.
  • 6 month plan: $25 for the first month, then $84 a month.

The page says plans auto-renew at the monthly rate unless cancelled and that GLP-1 medication costs are not included. The App Store also lists digital monthly plans from $19.99 to $24.99, so the price depends on which plan you choose. Check the site for current offers.

Is there a free WeightWatchers alternative?

For tracking, yes. Calo AI makes every feature free:

  • AI photo meal scanning, plus voice and text logging.
  • Personalized calorie and protein targets with macro analytics.
  • An AI nutrition coach and an intermittent fasting timer.
  • Weight tracking and step tracking.
  • Meal plans using dishes from your own country’s cuisine.

The free version shows ads, including one before each meal scan, and there is a short wait between coach messages. Premium removes ads and waiting without adding features. On iPhone, use the web app.

Points or calories: which is easier?

Points is WeightWatchers’ system, and its listing calls it a “calorie counter alternative”. It turns food into a single number and gives you over 350 ZeroPoint foods that do not need tracking, according to its US home page. Many people like that simplicity.

Calorie counting is more direct: you see energy, protein, carbs and fat. Calo AI sets your target with the revised Harris-Benedict equation and a 250, 500 or 750 kcal deficit, never below 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 kcal for men. If you are new to it, read how many calories you should eat a day and use our calorie deficit calculator. Our protein guide helps you stay full on fewer calories.

How do you move from Points to calories?

The biggest adjustment when leaving WeightWatchers is losing ZeroPoint foods. In calorie counting every food counts, including fruit, eggs and lean protein. That can feel strict at first, but you quickly learn which meals fill you up for the fewest calories.

A few tips that help in the first two weeks:

  • Log everything, even small bites. Points habits can mean some foods were never tracked. In a calorie app, they add up.
  • Lean on protein. High protein meals help you stay full. Calo AI sets a protein target of 2.0 g per kg of body weight when you are losing weight.
  • Do not chase a low number. Calo AI never sets a target below 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 kcal for men, and you should not go lower on your own.
  • Use your photo log. Snapping meals in Calo AI and correcting by voice or text is the quickest way to build the habit.

Our TDEE calculator shows roughly how much energy you use each day before any deficit.

When is WeightWatchers the better choice?

WeightWatchers has a long track record, and it is likely better if:

  • You like Points and ZeroPoint foods, and do not want to count calories.
  • You want human coaches, live sessions or registered dietitian support.
  • You want GLP-1 medication access and dose tracking inside one program, if eligible.
  • You value a members’ community for motivation.
  • You want a native iPhone or Apple Watch app.
  • You want menopause or diabetes specific programs.

How do you switch from WeightWatchers to Calo AI?

  1. Screenshot your weight history and any favorite recipes.
  2. Cancel your membership where you signed up, before it renews.
  3. Install Calo AI from Google Play, or open the web app.
  4. Set your goal and choose a deficit.
  5. Log meals by photo, voice or text. Expect calorie numbers to feel different from Points at first.

If you are on a weight loss medication, follow your prescriber’s advice. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, or have diabetes, PCOS, kidney disease or a history of eating disorders, speak to a doctor or registered dietitian before following an app’s calorie target. Results vary from person to person.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free WeightWatchers app?

The WeightWatchers Program app is free to download, but membership is paid. Its US plans page showed $25 for the first month on a 6 or 12 month plan, then $84 or $74 a month (checked 1 October 2026).

Is WW the same as WeightWatchers?

Yes. The company is WW International, Inc., and the program and app are branded WeightWatchers. You will still see "WW" in places such as its website and app store listings.

What is the best free WeightWatchers alternative?

If you want to count calories and protein instead of Points, a free tracker such as Calo AI works, with ads. If you specifically want Points, ZeroPoint foods or human coaching, a free app will not replicate that.

Can I use Points in another app?

Points is WeightWatchers' own system, and we do not know of any other app licensed to use it. Calo AI counts calories, protein, carbs and fat instead.

Does WeightWatchers include GLP-1 medication?

WeightWatchers offers a GLP-1 Success Program and Med+, which can give access to weight loss medication if you qualify. Its plans page says the cost of GLP-1 medications is not included.
