The cheapest Noom alternative is a free calorie tracker with an AI coach, and Calo AI is one: food logging by photo, voice or text, macro targets and AI coaching are free on Android and in the browser, paid for by ads. Noom itself is free to download, but its program is paid, with US App Store purchases from $44.99 to $199.99 (checked 1 October 2026).

What are you paying for with Noom?
Noom’s App Store listing describes a program “rooted in psychology” with these features: AI food logging with over 1 million food items, step tracking and rewards, access to GLP-1 medications if eligible, body scans, at-home biomarker labs, meal plans and recipes, Noom Move classes, daily lessons on habits, community “Circles”, device syncs and optional 1:1 coaching.
That is a lot more than a food log. The lessons, coaching and clinical options are what make Noom different, and they are why it costs money. On the Australian App Store, purchases range from A$64.99 to A$309.99 (checked 1 October 2026). The listings do not state what period each price covers.
So before you look for an alternative, be clear about what you would be giving up. Some people use only the food log and step counter, and for them a free tracker is a straight swap. Others value the lessons and the coach far more than the tracking, and for them a cheaper program may suit better than a free app.
Is there a free Noom alternative?
For the tracking part, yes. Calo AI makes every feature free:
- AI photo meal scanning, plus voice and text logging.
- Personalized calorie and protein targets, with weight and macro analytics.
- An AI nutrition coach you can ask about meals, cravings or eating out.
- An intermittent fasting timer and step tracking.
- Meal plans using dishes from your own country’s cuisine.
The trade-off: the free version shows ads, including one before each meal scan, and you wait briefly between coach messages. Premium removes both and adds no other features. On iPhone, use the web app.
What Calo AI does not have: structured psychology lessons, human coaches, body scans, lab tests or medication. If those were the reason you joined Noom, a free tracker will not replace them.
Can you get Noom-style habit change for free?
Partly. Much of what Noom teaches comes down to understanding energy balance, eating enough protein and planning for hard moments. You can learn the basics free:
- Calorie deficit explained covers the maths behind weight loss.
- How much protein per day helps you stay full.
- Our TDEE calculator estimates your daily energy needs.
Pair that reading with consistent logging and you have the core of most programs. What you lose is accountability to a person.
What should a cheaper Noom alternative include?
Think about which part of Noom you actually used. If you opened the app mainly to log meals and check your calories, any good free tracker covers that. If you read the lessons every day, the value was the education, and you can replace some of it with free reading. If you relied on a coach messaging you, that human accountability is the hardest thing to replace for free.
A useful free setup looks like this:
- A tracker you will actually open. Photo and voice logging lower the effort, which matters more than features you never use.
- A clear target. Our calorie deficit calculator gives you a starting number.
- Something to ask questions. Calo AI’s AI coach can answer “what should I order here?” or “how do I hit my protein today?”. It is not a person, and it is not medical advice.
- Accountability. A friend, a weekly weigh-in or a simple streak can do some of what a coach does.
When is Noom the better choice?
Noom is likely worth the money if:
- You want daily lessons on psychology and habits, not just numbers.
- You want 1:1 coaching from a person.
- You are interested in GLP-1 medication and want it inside the same program, if eligible.
- You want workout classes and community groups in one app.
- You use an iPhone and want a native app.
How do you switch from Noom to Calo AI?
- Save anything you want to keep from your Noom history with screenshots.
- Cancel in your phone’s store settings or wherever you subscribed, before renewal.
- Install Calo AI from Google Play, or open the web app.
- Set your goal. Calo AI uses the revised Harris-Benedict equation and a 250, 500 or 750 kcal deficit, never below 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 kcal for men.
- Log your next meal by photo, voice or text, and ask the coach anything.
If you are on a weight loss medication, follow your prescriber’s advice on eating. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, or have diabetes, PCOS, kidney disease or a history of eating disorders, speak to a doctor or registered dietitian before following an app’s calorie target. Results vary from person to person.
