Calo AI and Cal AI are two different apps made by two different companies, even though the names differ by one letter. Calo AI (caloai.fit) is a free, ad-supported calorie tracker for Android and the web, while Cal AI (calai.app) is a subscription app for iPhone and Android made by Cal AI, Inc.
Disclosure: this page is written by the Calo AI Team, and Calo AI is our app. We have no connection with Cal AI or with any of the App Store apps named below. Every competitor fact comes from that company’s own website or app store listing, checked on 1 October 2026.
Is Calo AI the same as Cal AI?
No. Here is how to tell them apart:
- Cal AI lives at calai.app. Its Google Play developer is Cal AI, Inc., based in Austin, Texas, and its App Store seller is Viral Development LLC. It offers a 3-day free trial, and its App Store listing says food scanning analysis results require a subscription.
- Calo AI lives at caloai.fit. It is a free Android app on Google Play with a web app that works on iPhone, iPad, Mac and PC. Every feature is free, and the free version shows ads.
Because they are separate products, accounts and subscriptions do not carry over. A Cal AI subscription does not apply in Calo AI, and the other way round.
Is Calo AI the CALO app on the App Store?
No. Calo AI has no iOS App Store app at all. On iPhone you use our web app in the browser.
When we searched the US App Store on 1 October 2026, several unrelated apps had similar names. None of them is connected to caloai.fit:
| App Store name | Seller |
|---|---|
| Calo: AI Food Calorie Counter | Next Vision Limited |
| Calor AI #1 Calorie Tracker (it has also appeared in search results as “CALO #1 Cal & AI Food Tracker”) | Sebastien Menozzi |
| Calo AI - Food Calorie Tracker | Jacek Jablonski |
| Calo (a chef-cooked meal delivery service) | Calo Inc. |
App names change, so the safest check is the website. If an app does not point to caloai.fit, it is not Calo AI.

What does each app do best?
Cal AI is a polished, focused photo tracker. Its website says you can snap a photo, scan a barcode or describe your meal, and it works out calories, protein, carbs and fat. It syncs with Apple Health and Google Fit, its FAQ mentions a family plan and a PDF export, and it is open about accuracy: its FAQ says “CalAI is about 80% accurate”.
Calo AI puts everything in the free version: AI photo meal scanning, voice and text logging, personalised meal plans, an AI nutrition coach, a fasting timer, weight and macro analytics and step tracking. Calorie targets use the revised Harris-Benedict equation with a 250, 500 or 750 kcal deficit and a floor of 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 kcal for men. The cost is ads, including one before each meal scan, plus a short wait between coach messages. Premium removes both but adds no features.
Both apps give photo estimates, not exact numbers. Portion size is the hardest part for any photo tracker. In Calo AI you can correct a result by voice or text, and describing the dish improves accuracy. Our guide on how accurate AI calorie trackers are explains why.
Is Cal AI or Calo AI more accurate?
We have not run a head-to-head accuracy test, so we will not claim one app is more accurate than the other. What we can tell you is what each company says. Cal AI’s FAQ says it is “about 80% accurate” and recommends good lighting and a clear, in-focus photo. For Calo AI, photo results are estimates, portion size is the hardest part, and you can improve a result by describing the dish or correcting it by voice or text.
For Indian meals in particular, the honest advice is the same for both apps: check a few of your regular plates against a trusted reference, and treat any single photo estimate as a starting point rather than an exact figure.
How do you make sure you are using Calo AI?
Because the names are so close, it is easy to install the wrong app. A few simple checks help:
- Start from caloai.fit. Links on our own website take you to the right place.
- On iPhone or iPad, skip the App Store. Calo AI has no App Store app, so open the web app in Safari instead. You can add it to your home screen from the Share menu.
- On Android, check the developer’s website on the Google Play listing before you install. If it does not point to caloai.fit, it is a different app.
- Check the price. If an app asks you to start a paid trial before you can scan a meal, it is not Calo AI. Every Calo AI feature is free.
Which one should you use?
Choose Cal AI if:
- You want a native iPhone app (its App Store listing also shows Apple Watch compatibility).
- Barcode scanning of packaged food matters to you.
- You prefer no ads and are happy to pay a subscription.
Choose Calo AI if:
- You use Android, or want to log from a browser on any device.
- You want photo scanning, an AI coach and meal plans without paying.
- You want meal plans built on dishes from your own country’s cuisine, or an app in Hindi.
If price is your main question, our page on whether Cal AI is free lists the prices shown on its India store listings.
A note on safety: if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, or have diabetes, PCOS, kidney disease or a history of eating disorders, speak to a doctor or registered dietitian before following a calorie target from any app.
